  22. This sounds like the parallel port overload problem, described in ST 
  23. Applications no 2 under the heading "ST Parallel Port Buffer".

  25. The basic problem is that the parallel port output lines are 
  26. unbuffered, and driven directly from the sound chip. Different 
  27. printers draw different loads, with non-Atari lasers and inkjets being 
  28. worse than dot matrix printers.

  30. The solution illustrated in the article is to buffer all outgoing 
  31. lines, using the printer's NOT ERROR line as a power supply. I have 
  32. bought the pieces but never put the buffer together, becuase the laser 
  33. printer landed on a borrowed PC instead of on the ST. (Word Perfect 
  34. does a very good job of font management!)
