- I was reading about PowerNet in the October AtariUser. It uses PowerDOS
- to handle its background processes and speed up disk I/O. I downloaded
- PowerDOS to see what it was like (it's freeware now), and indeed it was
- much quicker than GEMDOS or MiNT. The thing is, PowerNet is the most
- popular networking package for the ST (that I know of anyway) and because
- it relies on PowerDOS, it is not compatable with MiNT. I like MiNT much
- better as a multitasking kernel; it resembles Unix much more closely and
- it is much more tried and true. But PowerDOS does have some features that
- it would be nice if MiNT had; like the fast disk I/O and the network
- support. I think it would be extremely beneficial for all if Chris Latham
- (author of PowerDOS) and Eric Smith could consolodate their efforts and
- come out with a MiNT with built-in network support etc. PowerDOS will
- become obsolete anyway when MultiTOS comes out... if it was built into
- MultiTOS, all problems would be solved! :) What do people think about
- that? Eric? (does he still have time to read this newsgroup?)
