- This depends very much on what you want. Speedwise, they don't differ that
- much. True, the IDE is faster, but the RF is pretty fast, too. IDE drives
- are cheaper than SCSI drives, but to an IDE card you can't hook a CD-ROM
- or scanner or laser printer or floptical or .... "just" HD and Tape. OTOH,
- many people are quite comfortable with HD and Tape (jeck, there are even
- those without a tape at all), and do not plan to add a CD-ROM to their GS.
-
- Both cards get good support, so that's not an issue, either.
-
- Reusability (sp?): Again, depends on what your next computer will be. Macs,
- Sun, NeXT use SCSI. IBM 486 and clones often use IDE (yes, even with Unix :).
- The rumoured Avatar'll use IDE, although that is perhaps not really something
- to consider, yet. Hmm, but thinking about it, what would you do with a
- 100MB HD on a new computer, anyway? A bit small I'd say.
-
- So, this is what it looks like to me: Lower price for IDE drives,
- more possibilities device-wise for SCSI. If you foresee that you want a HD
- and perhaps a Tape, and that's it, go with the IDE. If you want lots of
- devices, give up some speed and buy a RF.
