- I just 'inherited' a slightly battered II+ and I have a few
- questions about it that I hope you Apple gurus can answer.
-
- 1. The machine appears to have 3 banks of 16k chips, except that the last
- chip in one bank has been removed and a cable has been connected in it's
- place. The cable runs to a 'language card'. What *is* a language card?
- Some sort of enhancement (like IBM PCjr cartridge basic)? A RAM expander?
- Something else?
-
- 2. Is this machine capable of displaying 80 column text?
-
- 3. Is there a way I can add an RS232 serial port?
-
- 4. The disk drive appears to be broken. When you turn on the machine it
- moves the heads around (resetting itself?) and then it just keeps running
- forever. (The drive says "DISK II" on the front and is labeled "drive 1"
- and connected to the "drive 1" connector on the card installed in the
- machine. Is this a common (and easily repairable) problem?
-
- Thanks in advance for your help. Who knows, maybe I can resurrect this
- thing. (It's got a whole pile of games and I love the keyboard. It'd make
- a very passable terminal if it can do 80 col text.) Thanks again.
