- Well, some people have probs with Supra v.32bis modems and some do not. If
- you have, then I can see why you are upset with these products. My Supra
- v.32bis modem has worked pretty well, both before and after getting the
- free ROM upgrade.
-
- I've found two things that can eliminate *some* of the problems you
- mention: 1) always dial in at 4800 baud... the modems will soon shift up
- to 14.4k baud but the initial connect seems more stable; and 2) use the
- proper modem setup string... I use "AT&F2W2s9=10%G1%E1" and it seems to
- work pretty well. It's not perfect but it works most of the time. I agree
- that it *should* function flawlessly ALL the time but it doesn't. Line
- noise? Not bloody likely... unless when you lift the phone, you hear
- static sizzling in the background. Getting 14,400 baud over standard phone
- lines IS pretty amazing. Remember when Ma Bell said that 1200 baud would
- be about the limit for a standard phone line for computer communications?
