- There is an article in the current issue of Amiga Format stating
- that from Jan 1st 1993 Commodore are increasing the price of Amigas in the
- U.K. - A600s by 30 pounds and A1200s by 40 pounds. This is reportedly due
- to the fall in value of the pound in respect to the dollar (currently
- $1.50/pound ish - I think).
- When Commodore released the A1200 they made several claims that they
- were determined to stick to the #399 price point - hence no DSP and no HD
- drive.
-
- What the HELL do they think they're playing at - There has been no
- drastic change in pound/dollar ratios since the A1200 release, so they must
- have known ages ago that they were going to increase the price after xmas -
- so why did they not just make it #499 (the same price as the Falcon) include
- a HD drive and a DSP, and avoid all the criticism they aquired for these
- omissions and all the criticism they will get for the price increase.
-
- How much is an A1200 in the states anyway - unless its $600 then
- Commodore are upping the price for the U.K. market anyway and they make the
- damn things in Scotland anyhow (I know most of the components come from the
- far east - but that applies to the US machines as well).
-
- Comments and explanations of Commodore's collected mental problems
- are definitely needed.
