-
- The only electrical difference between the a2000 keyboard and the a500
- keyboard is the timing circuit that holds the reset low. You'll notice in
- the 500 keyboard and the 2000 keyboard, right above the numeric keypad
- there is a transistor pad... (a triangle of solder pads)...
-
- Only one of the models has the xsistor installed (not sure which, I'm 80%
- sure the 500 keyboard is the one that HAS it, I should know, I used mine
- without a keycase for months....).
-
- I've never actually performed the mod, but I am told you can convert one
- keyboard electrically to the other by replacing or removing the transistor.
-
- It would make sense to me if C= manufactured only one keyboard and used
- it for all models.
-
- The 500 keyboard connector has the luxury of one extra line, so the reset
- could be made into a discrete line. I would assume that the transistor in
- the keyboard drives that line as needed to signal a reset. On the 2000, the
- signal had to be multiplexed onto another line to fit a DIN keyboard cable.
- So they simply hold off the keyclock for a time, and this is detected on
- the 2000 motherboard which triggers the reset...
-
- (And the grand colossal finish to this message)...
-
- I think..... ;>
