  13. I own a UNIX 7300 running elm 2.3 and (I believe) Smail 3.1.

  15. I have a strange problem.   At times when I send a letter, it seems
  16. like it is doing everything right, then I realize that the mail got
  17. stuck in /usr/spool/smail/input, under a long alpha-numeric code
  18. number.  There is also a lockfile with the same number in
  19. /usr/spool/smail/lock.

  21. Sometimes if I take the mail file and re-mail it through elm, it will make
  22. it to the outbound queue in /usr/spool/uucp/mailserver, and sometimes
  23. it won't.  In fact it is a toss up as to whether or not mail will get
  24. off-site or not.  Sometimes everything works fine for a month or more
  25. then it starts getting stuck again. There does not seem to be any
  26. pattern to this behavior.

  28. Occasionally (but very rarely) an incoming mail file will get stuck in
  29. /usr/spool/smail/input as well.  However the problem is with outgoing
  30. mainly.  What can anyone tell me about this problem which is annoying
  31. to say the least.

  33. For the record, I operate a AT&T PC7300, system V 3.51, Honey Dan Ber
  34. uucp, and as I said, elm as a mailer.  I don't have mailx or procmail.
