- I own a UNIX 7300 running elm 2.3 and (I believe) Smail 3.1.
-
- I have a strange problem. At times when I send a letter, it seems
- like it is doing everything right, then I realize that the mail got
- stuck in /usr/spool/smail/input, under a long alpha-numeric code
- number. There is also a lockfile with the same number in
- /usr/spool/smail/lock.
-
- Sometimes if I take the mail file and re-mail it through elm, it will make
- it to the outbound queue in /usr/spool/uucp/mailserver, and sometimes
- it won't. In fact it is a toss up as to whether or not mail will get
- off-site or not. Sometimes everything works fine for a month or more
- then it starts getting stuck again. There does not seem to be any
- pattern to this behavior.
-
- Occasionally (but very rarely) an incoming mail file will get stuck in
- /usr/spool/smail/input as well. However the problem is with outgoing
- mainly. What can anyone tell me about this problem which is annoying
- to say the least.
-
- For the record, I operate a AT&T PC7300, system V 3.51, Honey Dan Ber
- uucp, and as I said, elm as a mailer. I don't have mailx or procmail.

- Sincerely
