  40.      Availability of  computers  to  a   large   number   of
  41. non-technical users  during  the last decade has resulted in
  42. an ever  increasing  demand   for   user-friendly    systems
  43. and  software.   The  pioneering  work  of Xerox Corporation
  44. on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) has become a  tool   for
  45. many system manufacturers to build intuitive and easy-to-use
  46. GUIs for users  with  a   broad   diversity   of   technical
  47. skills.   Today,   personal   computers,   workstations  and
  48. departmental systems offer at least  one  flavor  of  a  GUI
  49. toolkit.   Virtually all  of the toolkits in the market have
  50. been initially written for the English  language.   A  small
  51. number   of   elements in  any toolkit are language indepen-
  52. dent because they are based on graphical  images.   However,
  53. most  of  a  toolkit's  elements  read  or  write  text  and
  54. are therefore  language  dependent.   There  has  been  much
  55. effort   to   internationalize  GUI   toolkits   and   major
  56. advancements  have  been  made to address the needs of Euro-
  57. pean   and   far  eastern  languages.  But so far, a Persian
  58. GUI toolkit based on a standard ``look and feel'' technology
  59. has  not  been  available.

  61.      In  this paper,  we  will  present  a  complete  object
  62. oriented  Persian  toolkit  for  the  X  Window System  that
  63. implements  the  OPEN LOOK specification.
