- Hi folks,
-
- Just to give you an update on an interesting recent development:
-
- Last week the SEI Joint Program Office formed a new DoD/industry advisory
- board for overseeing their Software Capability Evaluation (SCE) program.
- The board has four DoD representatives and four industry representatives.
-
- I've had some detailed interactions with some of the figures involved and
- am pleased to say that this appears to be a serious, well-thought-out
- attempt to bring the software industry into real participation with the
- process of applying and using Software Capability Evaluations. What I
- find particularly interesting is that this new committe does not appear
- to be just a rubber-stamping committee, as I had feared it might prove
- to be when I first heard about it. There are a number of people involved
- who are quite serious about the need for better methods, better reviews,
- and better communications all around with regards to SCE.
-
- I look forward to seeing how all of this unfolds.
-
- My only suggestion to fellow motley members of the Net community is that
- if some of you out there have been chafing to complain to someone about
- being treated unfairly by an SCE or some aspect of the SCE program, *please*
- be sure to contact some of these folks when their names are announced.
- (No, I am not one of them.)
-
- Even if such things do not directly affect you personally, you might think
- about forwarding this email on to whoever in your organization might be
- the most interested or affected. In short, this might be a good opportunity
- to put a little democracy into action, now that the planning and improvement
- of the SCE program appears to be opening up a bit.
-
- Up until the formation of this advisory board, those of you who may have felt,
- um, a wee bit stepped on have had no real mechanism by which to voice your
- concerns about SCE. Now it appears you will. As the saying goes: "Use it,
- or you may lose it."
-
- Cheers,
- Terry Bollinger
