  62. ObjecTime 4.0 is a commercial object-oriented CASE tool specifically
  63. created for distributed, event-driven systems. 
  64.  
  65. ObjecTime supports an advanced methodology for the analysis and design
  66. of distributed, event-driven systems known as Real-Time Object-Oriented
  67. Modeling (ROOM).  ROOM includes graphical design concepts and a
  68. highly-iterative development process which help to eliminate
  69. error-prone discontinuities between the various phases of software
  70. development.  As a unique feature, ObjecTime enables the creation of
  71. executable analysis and design models that can be tested in an
  72. extensive workstation-based run-time environment.

  74. The high-level design concepts supported for real-time include
  75. concurrent objects (hierarchically decomposed) that communicate via
  76. messages through formal protocol definitions. Complex hierarchical
  77. finite-state machines specify the behavior of such objects, via major
  78. object-oriented extensions to the Statecharts formalism.  Inheritance
  79. can be applied at the design component level, independent of the detail
  80. level programming language.

  83. language. Either C++ or Rapid Prototyping Language (based
  84. on Smalltalk-80) may be used at the detailed design level.

  87. company established as a spin-off from Bell-Northern Research (BNR),
  88. the R&D arm of Northern Telecom. The development of ObjecTime started
  89. in 1986 in a response to the needs of complex telecommunications
