- I'm on the verge of picking up a tape drive, but still not decided as to
- exactly which on.
-
- Right now I'm strongly leaning towards the Iomega 250. It's small (3.5"
- form factor), Irwin and Jumbo/CMS compatible, has a good rep, and is going
- pretty cheap ($250 w/ PCTools Backup for DOS).
-
- OS/2 query: Will it work with the Irwin PM EzTape? I'm not clear enough
- on this "Irwin compatible" bit to be sure. Can I purchase EzTape separate
- from an Irwin drive?
-
- I have an Adaptec 1542B SCSI adapter controlling a single HD right now. I
- would _like_ to add a SCSI tape backup unit rather than a floppy-based
- one, but so far the prices I've seen are pretty outrageous. They seem to
- be at least twice the price/MB than the floppy ones I've seen, and I don't
- know if I can justify that. I know the speed improvement is vast, and I
- think I'm going to feel like an idiot for getting into SCSI and then not
- taking advantage of it, but.. Any recommendations for a good and
- inexpensive SCSI tape unit?
-
- Also, do any SCSI units use the same media as the Jumbo/CMS/Iomega drives?
- If so, will they read/write the same software format? One of the major
- incentives for me to get a Iomega is that most of the people I know have
- them, so it becomes that much more useful if I'm compatible with them
- (unfortunately, none of them have SCSi <sigh>). My experience with SCSI
- units is limited to WangTek DAT drives using SYTOS PLUS under DOS and
- OS/2.
-
- Thanks for any advice...
