- Hello all. I currently have a Maxtor 7130 IDE drive and will be adding
- a 7213 IDE drive within the week. This is my plan of attack to try and
- keep room for future growth and keep things simple. I would like to
- have 'system+commerc. apps+network apps' on the 210 meg disk and the 130 left
- for thesis, docs, misc. files that are used with the above apps. This means
- moving almost everything to the new drive. Here are the steps I plan, please
- comment on whether they are possible or not. By the way I will have no
- boot manager or such here, straight OS/2.
-
- 1) Use wpsbk9 to backup my desktop colors and stuff.
-
- 2) Set up the new (210) drive as C: and format it and install the system
- apps, etc.
-
- 3) Temp. set up old drive(130) as C: and restore the desktop using the wpsbk9
- utility to the D: drive. Can wpsbk9 restore from C: drive to D: drive??
- (C: the small drive should still have the boot info on it.) Reconfigure
- the drive so that I have C: 210 meg, D: 130 meg.
-
- 4) Backup the stuff I want on the 130 meg drive and then reformat it to
- get rid of the system stuff and the boot info.
-
- Step 3 is what I'm not sure about.
-
- If anyone has any comments about the procedure, a simpler way, etc. please
- let me know. Also, if you have any comments about the disk break down let
- me know. I know I've seen some pretty complex partioning ideas, but I'm not
- sure if for a home system it is worth it. I main partion the 130 meg drive
- into a 110 meg and a 20 meg drive and let the 20 be swap space. I'll be going
- to 16 or 20 meg system memory at about the same time so 20 meg should be more
- than enough for that. I may even reduce the 20 meg swap space, I haven't seen
- many swapper.dat over 10 or meg even with 8 meg on the system??
-
- Thanks,
-
- Todd
