- I use an OS/2 .gif program (VIEWGIF2.ZOO on the ftp site below). It allows
- direct palette manipulation to display the .gif file in all its colours on
- the PM desktop.
-
- What I do for DOS programs is view the image full-screen, then after
- the image is displayed, press CTRL-HOME to put it in a window. The
- program will still suspend, but it will display the image. Then I can
- even cut and paste from the screen. I've used this to make 256 colour
- 40x40 icons for Gunship 2000, Spellcasting 201, and a few other games.
- Really nice graphics. The 1024x768x256 drivers use the same resources
- (fonts, icons) as the 8415, so you can have 256-colour icons, etc.
-
- Also, it looks like it only checks for the bad mode when the DOS
- program changes into graphics modes. I've had a few programs (Gunship
- 2000 for example) that suspend when they first go into graphic mode.
- However, if I then put it full-screen, then back to graphic mode, it
- will continue running in a window. Some programs will work like this,
- others (like Castle Wolfenstein and Spellcasting 201) won't.
