- Hi people,
- I have some video questions that I can't seem to find
- information for (yes, I checked the faq!)
-
- First the background... I was running at 1024x768x256 using the
- SP's ET4000 drivers. However, when I tried to run Word 4.0 and
- MS Works windowed, the error message said that the resolution
- requested was not available. (Any one know why?) Anyway, so I
- then used Selective Install to try to downgrade the video to
- 800x600x256 (which used to work). After grinding through the
- disks, it hung! I tried to reboot, and did, but when OS/2 came
- up, a blank screen, nothing. So, using the 3 disk emergency
- method, I managed to gain access to the OS/2 HPFS disk. It seems
- that when the system hung, it killed the svgadata.pmi file (it
- was zero length). Now come the questions...
-
- 1] It seems to me, that the lack of the pmi file caused the video
- to come up blank. Am I correct in this assumption?
-
- 2] If so, how would one regenerate such a pmi file? I tried SVGA
- ON under regular DOS5.0 and it said it could not recoginize my
- video card (ProDesigner IIs).
-
- 3] If I can't generate a new pmi file in an emergency, is there
- a way to force OS/2 to use regular VGA so at least I could bring
- the system up and use the Selective Install to undo my own
- damage?
-
- Thanks for reading this!
