- We are nearing completion of a Usenet news reader for Windows NT. This
- was originally to be a port of WinVn by Mark Riordan, but it took some
- detours and ended up a whole new product.
-
- WinNews is an MSC/MFC C++ program utilizing the WinSock TCP/IP
- interface. Initially, only the 32bit NT version will be available. I
- hope to release a 16 bit WinSock version in the near future for use with
- Windows 3.1.
-
- WinNews features MDI presentation, trn-style thread-following with a
- graphics-based hyper-thread window (click on a thread node to see
- author, date and subject, double click to open the article),
- point-and-click newsgroup management, TCP/IP (WinSock) or serial NNTP,
- SMTP reply mail (WinSock mode only), and extensive customization options
- (such as followup quoting, etc).
-
- Soon to follow is a port of INN (an NNTP news-server suite) to NT. This
- should be available in late January.
-
- The reader will likely be distributed as shareware with posting
- available when the product is registered.
