  17. As a software developer, I have a slightly different perspective on
  18. this.  I too hate copy protection, but we found that it is essential.
  19. We have used a dongle on our package (a raster-to-vector conversion
  20. package, selling for about $2000).  We apologize to our users for this
  21. in the documentation.

  23. However, we have been told by every distributor that we have signed
  24. up that they would not carry the product if we did not have this
  25. protection.  The dealers are not willing to carry products without
  26. it.  It is extremely difficult to locate good distributors for such
  27. software, and we cannot afford to do anything which would cause them
  28. to reject or under-sell the product for any avoidable reason.
