  14. I can compile linux-0.99 with the two small patches without any problems.
  15. Running on a 386.
  16. Have freshly compiled poeigl-1.7 and after rescue with H. Lu's 0.98pl5 bootable
  17. root to eliminated tty64 from /etc/inittab
  18. which PREVENTED either linux-0.98pl3+ or linux-0.98pl5 from
  19. operating as they got stuck in getty loop for non-existent serial port.
  20. Have freshly made stuff from system-0.98.
  21. Do not have freshly made swapon/swapoff --- where is source?

  23. Booting 0.99 from floppy as have no free bootlin entries:
  24. two vmlinux are 0.98pl3+ WORKS 100%
  25. and vmlinux.alt 0.98pl5 WORKS except X runs except no mouse)

  27. When boot 0.99 [from floppy] I see expected results through lines:
  28. Partition Tables okay
  29. Linux version 0.99-46 ...

  31. I do not see swap stuff line NOR login.
  32. I can type on VC1 with it being echoed to screen.
  33. VC2 can toggle NUMLOCK but cannot type/echo to screen.

  35. I have seen several other c.o.l users in this state on 0.99 plus one or two
  36. users at work (with 386 machines) also with this problem.

  38. BTW: mouse is on serial port (3 button) I made no changes when installed
  39. H. Lu's root disk --- running patchlevel 5 except for when use X and
  40. running patchlevel 3.
