- I'm having a few problems trying to get my box hooked up to my roommates.
- Here's the setup:
- My box: 386/40, 8MB RAM, WD8003E card, kernel 0.99 (-scsi,+sound,+tcp/ip).
- Roommates: 386sx/16, 2MB RAM, 3c503 card, kernel 0.99 (-scsi,-sound,+tcp/ip).
-
- I am not running named on either machine. I have the hosts file set up
- identically on both machines:
-
- darwin 129.30.30.1 [my machine]
- fugazi 129.30.30.2 [roommate's]
-
- The IP numbers are arbitrary since we are not hooked up to any net.
-
- NOTE: I have not applied any of the tcp patches for 0.99. Please tell me if
- it will help my situation to apply them.
-
- I have compiled my kernel with the standard ether drivers, and my roommate's
- with Donald Becker's 3c503 drivers. The ether cards on both machines get
- detected correctly (well, mine tells me its a WD8013, but that isn't a big
- deal), and I can telnet to loopback on both.
-
- I have read the latest ether FAQ, and I thought that the bit about making
- sure the 3c503 had the jumpers set to map shared memory at the place
- where the kernel said it was would help, but to no avail.
-
- The problem is this: I try to telnet out from my roommate's machine to
- mine and it hangs. I try to telnet from mine to his, and on mine it
- says "WD8003 timed out." and on his it has garbled packets and it says it's
- resetting the card. I have no idea what's going on. Please mail me any
- advice. Thanks in advance.
