  14. In article <1992Dec14.054309.10224@murdoch.acc.Virginia.EDU> prv2d@fulton.seas.Virginia.EDU (Peter Villadsen) writes:
  15.
  16.       I recently ran the small test suite included with the ufc-crypt
  17.    package and found that it ran slower than the native crypt. For
  18.    my 386/25 (no math coprocessor), this was:
  19.       crypt:  312.7 crypts/sec
  20.    ufccrypt:  281.9 crypt/sec
  21.
  22.       I am wondering why this is the case? Under the Sun and RS6000,
  23.    the UFC-crypt ran much faster. I'm using 0.98pl4, gcc2.2.2d on a
  24.    386/25 with no math coprocessor. Thanks,
  25.
  26. Well, for one thing, UFC-crypt is the native crypt under Linux.
  27. Perhaps you were trying an older version when you grabbed your own to
  28. compile?
