- Well I finally got around to trying to install linux on my box. I have
- a Gateway 2000 66mhz dx2 486 with 8meg ram. I have my hard rive set up
- with a 75meg logical partition for linux wich is split into dev/hda6 for
- linux and dev/hda7 for swap. Anyway I went through fdisk and mkfs and
- mkswap.Oh I did reboot after I was done with fdisk. Anyway I got no
- error messages yet. I did doinstall /dev/hda6 and followed the prompts.
- Everything seemed to go fine. It asked for my formatted floppy so it
- could make the boot disk and made that fine. GREAT I thought.
- I rebooted using the boot floppy and I got the initial boot screen
- but it stoped there. This is what it said. Some stuff is abbrieviated:
-
- It found all three of my serial ports.
- 8 virtual consoles
- lp_init: lp0 exists(0)
- scsi: 0 hosts
- scsi: detected 0 disks 0 tapes 0 cd-roms
- memory 7168k/8192k available 540k kernel 384k reserved 100k data
- Floppy drive(s) fd0 is 1.2m (should it have found my 1.44m floppy)
- floppy: FDC version 0x90
- sock_init: initializing family 1 (AF-UNIX)
- sock_init: initializing family 2 (AF-INET)
- Loopback device init

- What is WD8013. If it is some western digital board I don't have one so why is
- it looking for it?
- I got a mesage when rawriting a2 to floppy but a2 worked(or seemed to) fine
- when I used a1 and a2 to start up.
