- Hi there everyone,
-
- I'm really delighted about how well linux works on my system at home.
- Everything runs pretty stable as far as I can see.
-
- I have some suggestions of things I'm still missing:
-
- 1) Virtual consoles for the serial ports
-
- It would be very nice if someone could use more than one console
- on a remote terminal. I don't know if that is possible to imple-
- ment.
-
- 2) Bootroms for the WD Elite-16 Card for TCP/IP
-
- It would also be very nice if I could boot some kind of diskless
- Workstation with Linux. If it had enough RAM you could even live
- without a swap-device.
-
- 3) Streams
-
- This is directly connected to my next question. Is there anybody
- out there implementing streams for linux?
-
- 4) ISDN
-
- A few people here in Germany already have access to ISDN for Tele-
- and Data-communication. As there are some PC-Cards for ISDN that
- are much cheaper than hi-speed-modems, it would be quite interesting
- for the future to implement a device-driver for isdn, one could use
- as an answer-machine, a dial-in-port, a TCP/IP-connection etc.
- There's already someone here in Germany who has implemented such a
- beast. (Matthias Urlichs, urlichs@smurf.sub.org) The draw-back of
- this implementation is, that it depends on streams as transport-media
- between the layers and it only supports the German-Telecom's 1TR6 ISDN
- D-Channel-protocoll. (Am I right that there's no streams out there for
- linux?) Other than that the whole thing seems to work pretty well.
- The sources can be obtained at: ftp.ira.uka.de: /pub/network/isdn/isdn.tar.Z
-
- A good thing would be either to get streams running on linux or to re-implement
- the drivers using some other transport layer. For the other European countries
- it should be possible to implement the new Euro-ISDN-protocoll-suite.
-
- 5) X-Support for the ATI Ultra Pro 2
-
- Is there anybody working on an X-server which uses the special features of
- this new generation of ATI-cards?
-
-
-
- ok... that's about it.... I'm really interested in the ISDN-stuff and would be
- willing to put some effort in there, too. If there's anyone out there doing some
- of the above, please let me know...
-
- thanks for now, see ya to-pse
