- Connecting to the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) via the 'Network'

- Logging On

- 1. Connect to library.vuw.ac.nz.

- The way you do this will depend on the system you are using.
- However with most computer systems connected to the
- 'Network' (VUW Campus Backbone Network, Te Kawai Hiko,
- Internet etc) the command "telnet library.vuw.ac.nz" should do
- the trick.t period of time the connection will be
- established.

- Trying...
- Connected to library.nz.
- Escape character is '^]'.

- 3. Press Return.

- The system log on prompt will appear:

- 4. Enter OPAC then press Return.

- You will be logged on to the Online Public Access Catalogue
- and presented with the "Welcome" screen.

- Logging Off

- 1. From the main search menu, enter "Q" then press return.

- You should now see the "Welcome" screen that was displayed when
- you first logged on.

- 2. Enter LATER then press return.

- You will be logged off and your telnet session will finish,
- in a similar way to the following example:

- o These instructions were last revised on Wed 16 Dec 1992.
- o The IP address for library.vuw.ac.nz is 130.195.11.90. This is
- subject to change so only use the IP address if you don't have
- access to a domain name server.
- o You may be asked to enter the type of terminal you are using after
- entering OPAC, during step 4 of Logging On. The supported
- terminal types are: VT100, VT52 and Wyse 30/50 (in native mode,
- enhance off).
