  17.        Announcing the ACM SIGGRAPH Online Bibliography Project

  20.      A new resource for researchers is now available to the computer
  21.      graphics community.  Over 15,000 unique bibliographic references from
  22.      the computer graphics field have been compiled into a single database
  23.      for use by students, researchers, and the computer community in
  24.      general.

  26.      The project started with the DEC online computer graphics bibliography,
  27.      which covered the years 1976 through 1986, and added the contributed
  28.      bibliographic databases of a number of individuals, expanding the years
  29.      covered as well as the sources of information.

  31.      This database includes references from conferences and workshops
  32.      worldwide and from a variety of publications, from magazines and
  33.      journals to books dating back as far as the late 19th century.  The
  34.      majority of the major journals and conference proceedings between the
  35.      mid-1970's and 1992 are listed here.

  37.      The database is formatted in the BibTeX bibliography entry format, an
  38.      easy-to-read and understand ASCII format.  It is organized into files by
  39.      year (except for the entries prior to 1975, which are collected into one
  40.      file by themselves).

  42.      A set of tools for manipulating and searching the bibliography database
  43.      is also available for downloading.
  44.  
  45.      The database is available for anonymous FTP from "siggraph.org"
  46.      "(128.248.245.250)" in the "publications/bibliography" directory.
  47.      Use "anonymous" as the username and your electronic mail address
  48.      as the password to gain entry to the FTP area on this machine.
  49.      Please download and examine the file "READ_ME" contained in the
  50.      "publications/bibliography" directory for more specific information
  51.      concerning the database.

  53.      This project is an ongoing concern:  We plan to expand the bibliography,
  54.      both keeping it up-to-date as well as filling in missing pieces,
  55.      large or small, and polishing and refining the format of the existing
  56.      database.  In addition, plans to provide interactive online searching of
  57.      the database are underway.  Alternative distribution channels are also
  58.      being considered.
