  10. If I want to just delete every instance of a character string and
  11. replace it with absolutely nothing, I just press the meta key when I'm
  12. prompted for the replacement string.  This works fine if that's the
  13. first time I've done a replacement.  But that doesn't work if I've
  14. done a replacement before during that emacs session, in which case
  15. just pressing the meta key acts to accept the previous replacement.
  16. How can I do such a search and replace in that case?
