- Yes, and possibly V.fast.
-

-
- The 'S' models are basically the same technology as the equivalent 'E' models
- but have a nifty 2-line LCD display, support 4-wire leased lines, and have
- seperate jacks in the back: one for a leased line, the other for a dialup line
- and can use the dialup line to back up the leased line.
-
- This is also the modem referred to in the manuals (and some other places) as
- the U-1496 (+).
-

-
- It's a line diagnostic tool that is available as an option to any 'S' model
- modem.
-
- From the manual:
-
- EYE PATTERN
- The Eye Pattern Generator (EPG) is a diagnostic tool used with an
- oscilliscope to evaluate telephone line performance. The EPG converts
- the signal recieved over the telephone line to voltqage signals that
- the oscilliscope displays as 'eye' pattern or 'constellation' pattern.
-
- NOTE:
- EPG is available onlu on U-1496 upon special request,
- commercial model U-1496 product does not include EPG.
-
- You can diagnose telephone line problems by noting if the eye pattern
- on your oscilliscope is distorted. The quality of the line depends on
- the area (country), weather, the route of each call, equipment, etc...
- If the modem cannot resist the distortion, it will retrain or fall back
- to a lower rate if the modem is configured this way.
-
- To see the eye pattern, connect one oscilliscope probe to the X-pin
- and one probe to the Y-pinon the rear panel of the modem. Connect
- the ground on each probe to the G-pin. Put the oscilliscope in XY
- mode. The standard and bit-rate determine the number of points in the
- eye pattern.
-
- Any spelling errors in the above are probably mine, but grammatical errors are
- not (I just copied the book).
-
-
- Oh, rumour has it that either ZeroOne or ZyXEL was considering releasing their
- development system to the general public. What happened to this? Am I the
- only one interested in it? How can I get a copy? etc...
