- Very little has been decided about V.fast; there are a lot of
- proposals on the table. What HAS been decided is that it will
- support data rates from 2400 to 28,800 bit/s in increments of 2400
- bit/s. You should be able to see 28,800 bit/s on roughly 80% of
- lines in the USA, which would be those which have a relatively short
- loop with all digital trunks used for long distanceand interoffice
- calls.

- That depends on your needs. The V.fast standard is not likely to be
- settled until mid-1994 at the earliest. Reasonable low-cost
- products might not be available until late 1995 or early 1996 if
- we're lucky. That's a long way away. If you're running 2400 now,
- you can probably save a lot of time (and money, if you pay for
- connect time or long distance charges) by going ahead and buying a
- V.32bis modem now.
