- The "v.32bis" part is the specifications for the 14400 (and 9600)
- modulation sheme. As such, it needs to be part of the hardware.
- The "v.42bis" is the error correction and compression. It could
- be emulated in software, but I don't know of any V.32bis modems
- that don't include V.42bis. I did have a 2400 bps modem for a
- laptop once that included software for MNP error correction.
