- I always think that /pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS is good and I check it daily to
- see if they are any new programs worth trying ...
-
- Some tips ...
- 1) read the accompanying *.txt (if available) to see if the compressed file
- is worth to be downloaded ... This is especially important for large files
- as you probably don't want to waste your terminal time ...
-
- 2) if probable, uncompress the file on your "mainframe" system to see
- the contents (for *.zip file, you can also zipinfo *.zip) ...
-
- 3) read any README or manual.doc to see if the accompanying programs
- are likely to be respectable ... The better the quality the
- documentation is, the more reliable the programs will be ...
-
- 4) then download the compressed file to a floppy (should be saver than to
- your hard disk) and scan it with an antivirus program ... (even though
- luckily I haven't found any files I downloaded from /pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS
- contaminated with virus) ...
-
- BTW ... Thanks John for putting Telix 3.20 in /pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS ...
- and now we can all use it before it is being available on Simtel20
- and Garbo ... I think every one with new bona-fide files should upload
- them to that directory for the many impatient users (like me :) ...
