  13. This is a posting designed to orient new users to The PSYCGRAD
  14. Project: PSYCGRAD, bit.listserv.psycgrad, and PSYGRD-D.  This message
  15. is posted twice monthly.  If you are reading this through NETNEWS,
  16. please read this document very carefully.  It was written with you
  17. in mind.  Also, if you are reading this through NETNEWS, and you
  18. have not subscribed to PSYCGRAD, please subscribe and set your mail
  19. option to nomail.  We like to keep a record of the number of
  20. graduate students who read the list.  Thank you.

  25.                   Welcome to The PSYCGRAD Project
  26.  
  27. The PSYCGRAD Project is a list designed as a form of networking for
  28. graduate students in the field of psychology.  We encourage
  29. graduate students to post here regularly and often.  It is the
  30. intent of the list owner that this list operate so to promote its
  31. use as the standard of communication among graduate students in
  32. psychology.  PSYCGRAD is summarized almost daily through The
  33. PSYCGRAD Digest (PSYGRD-D).
  34.  
  35. As such a means of professional graduate student networking, we
  36. encourage many forms of communication.  Announcements regarding job
  37. openings, conferences, workshops, collective projects, etc. are
  38. extremely welcome.  Much communication will focus on ideas,
  39. discussions and debates regarding graduate students experiences
  40. (research, training, academic growth, faculty-student interaction,
  41. etc.).

  43. PLEASE
  44. We would like to sincerely request that you review the brief list
  45. of guidelines below in order to ensure that we will be able to meet
  46. our objective.  If you find it necessary to suggest to someone that
  47. he or she increase the amount of attention that is payed to one of
  48. these guidelines, please mail that individual directly.  Do not
  49. post to the list or the listowner the suggestion.

  51. 1. If you are subscribed to The PSYCGRAD Digest, please pay special
  52. attention to these guidelines:
  53.  
  54.      1.1  Send mail and your replys as often as you wish to
  55.           PSYCGRAD.
  56.  
  57.      1.2  Never send mail to PSYGRD-D.  Only compiled digests will
  58.           be sent to PSYGRD-D by the editors.
  59.  
  60.      1.3  Do not remain subscribed to PSYCGRAD.  As soon as you
  61.           subscribe to PSYGRD-D, signoff of PSYCGRAD.

  63. 2. Please take time to make sure that the subject line of your
  64. posting most accurately reflects the messages content.  Don't just
  65. hit your reply key without attending to the subject line.

  67. 3. Please be sensitive to when your e-mail might best be privately
  68. made.
  69.  
  70. 4. Please, rather than respond to each letter on a given topic,
  71. read all of the letters on the topic first, then compose your
  72. answers and send them in one letter.

  74. 5. Please do not flame (intentionally insult; publicly attack
  75. individuals through the content of your postings or e-mail)
  76. Try to provide rational behind your points when you disagree.

  80. 6. Please keep in mind and respect that PSYCGRAD is not a general
  81. psychology discussion list.

  83. People wishing to contribute to a more general discussion of
  84. psychology, undergraduate education in psychology, or interested in
  85. faculty issues in psychology are encourage to post to the NETNEWS
  86. group sci.psychology.

  88. Individuals who are not graduate students in psychology should
  89. carefully consider whether their messages are being directed toward
  90. the appropriate forum.
  91.  
  92. 7. Pregraduate students wishing information about graduate school
  93. should reference the APA publication "Graduate Studies in
  94. Psychology."  Please refrain from posting general queries of the
  95. nature, "I would like information on graduate program which . . ."
  96. or "I am a pregraduate student in psychology and . . ." However,
  97. please feel welcome to listen in.  If necessary, mail to
  98. individuals in the program to which you need specific information
  99. after referencing the APA manual mentioned above.

  101. 8.  If you are not currently interested in the topics being
  102. addressed on PSYCGRAD, **PLEASE** feel free to introduce a new
  103. topic.  Send out a query.  Speak your mind.  Debate an issue.  The
  104. content of this list is up to you.  If you cannot find what you are
  105. looking for in The PSYCGRAD Project, it's because you haven't
  106. written about it yet.
