- MISSION STATEMENT
-
- Welcome to The PSYCGRAD Project
-
- The PSYCGRAD Project is a list designed as a form of networking for
- graduate students in the field of psychology. We encourage
- graduate students to post here regularly and often. It is the
- intent of the list owner that this list operate so to promote its
- use as the standard of communication among graduate students in
- psychology. PSYCGRAD is summarized almost daily through The
- PSYCGRAD Digest (PSYGRD-D).
-
- As such a means of professional graduate student networking, we
- encourage many forms of communication. Announcements regarding job
- openings, conferences, workshops, collective projects, etc. are
- extremely welcome. Much communication will focus on ideas,
- discussions and debates regarding graduate students experiences
- (research, training, academic growth, faculty-student interaction,
- etc.).
-
- PLEASE
- We would like to sincerely request that you review the brief list
- of guidelines below in order to ensure that we will be able to meet
- our objective. If you find it necessary to suggest to someone that
- he or she increase the amount of attention that is payed to one of
- these guidelines, please mail that individual directly. Do not
- post to the list or the listowner the suggestion.
-
- 1. If you are subscribed to The PSYCGRAD Digest, please pay special
- attention to these guidelines:
-
- 1.1 Send mail and your replys as often as you wish to
- PSYCGRAD.
-
- 1.2 Never send mail to PSYGRD-D. Only compiled digests will
- be sent to PSYGRD-D by the editors.
-
- 1.3 Do not remain subscribed to PSYCGRAD. As soon as you
- subscribe to PSYGRD-D, signoff of PSYCGRAD.
-
- 2. Please take time to make sure that the subject line of your
- posting most accurately reflects the messages content. Don't just
- hit your reply key without attending to the subject line.
-
- 3. Please be sensitive to when your e-mail might best be privately
- made.
-
- 4. Please, rather than respond to each letter on a given topic,
- read all of the letters on the topic first, then compose your
- answers and send them in one letter.
-
- 5. Please do not flame (intentionally insult; publicly attack
- individuals through the content of your postings or e-mail)
- Try to provide rational behind your points when you disagree.
- "It's okay to disagree with someone or their ideas. It is not
- okay to insult them." -Betty Harris
-
- 6. Please keep in mind and respect that PSYCGRAD is not a general
- psychology discussion list.
-
- People wishing to contribute to a more general discussion of
- psychology, undergraduate education in psychology, or interested in
- faculty issues in psychology are encourage to post to the NETNEWS
- group sci.psychology.
-
- Individuals who are not graduate students in psychology should
- carefully consider whether their messages are being directed toward
- the appropriate forum.
-
- 7. Pregraduate students wishing information about graduate school
- should reference the APA publication "Graduate Studies in
- Psychology." Please refrain from posting general queries of the
- nature, "I would like information on graduate program which . . ."
- or "I am a pregraduate student in psychology and . . ." However,
- please feel welcome to listen in. If necessary, mail to
- individuals in the program to which you need specific information
- after referencing the APA manual mentioned above.
-
- 8. If you are not currently interested in the topics being
- addressed on PSYCGRAD, **PLEASE** feel free to introduce a new
- topic. Send out a query. Speak your mind. Debate an issue. The
- content of this list is up to you. If you cannot find what you are
- looking for in The PSYCGRAD Project, it's because you haven't
- written about it yet.
-
- Thank you for your time and interest in PSYCGRAD. Have Fun!
