- Currently, the NOTIS CICS region is "up" when the university
- library is open. Library users are expressing a desire for
- NOTIS to be available for dial-up usage during hours that the
- library is closed. By decreasing our batch window size, we
- can accommodate the user request for more NOTIS availability
- time. This would be a partial solution to the problem.
- A better solution would be for the university to install
- software that would allow 24 hour on-line access. In other
- words the software would allow for updating of the CICS/VSAM
- files from batch programs while the end users have full access
- to on-line NOTIS. If there are any NOTIS sites utilizing this
- type of software, I would appreciate your evaluation of this
- mode of processing. I would be interested in:
- 1. The software being used and the name and address of a
- contact person
- 2. Cost of the software
- 3. Positives and negatives found in the installation,
- utilization, affect on on-line performance, etc.
- of the software.
