- I think I just sent the list a blank message--sorry! I was trying to
- kill it, and failed.
- What I wanted to do was respond to Robert Kelly's remarks about nested
- menus and added keystrokes. First, thanks for pointing out that many of
- them are only needed to accommodate Lingua users--I had figured that
- they had been added because the old, shorter combinations had been given
- new uses--but I have not yet become familiar enough with NB 4 to know
- which new uses I could do without, or even what they are. As a Lingua
- non-user, I now feel a little more emboldened to change back the
- changes I do not like.
-
- More generally, while I share Mervyn's exasperation (if not, unfortunately,
- his blackbird) I also think that at least some of this comes from lack
- of familiarity with NB 4. That is, right now the aggravation of having
- to hit three keys instead of two to lower-case a capitalized word is added
- to by the much greater aggravation of having to pull out the "Changes and
- New Features" (or whatever it is called) booklet to find out what those keys
- are. Similarly, I miss F1-Info more now than I will after I have learned
- how to make greater use of the action line with new commands.
-
- Finally, I am also exasperated because at this point NB 4 does not seem
- to be much of an IMprovement over 3.1. Again, I do not use Lingua; and
- Orbis, potentially a big improvement, does not yet function well, from
- what I hear--at least, I have not had the courage to try it. For word
- processing itself--perhaps here, again, familiarity will make the advantages
- clearer with time, but I am not yet convinced.
