- At Ohio State creativity is not needed. We are only closed 5 days per year.
-
- Now, granted faculty have all official holidays off except Columbus day ( taken
- the day after Thanksgiving) and President's day ( which becomes Christmas Eve
- for everyone). Most staff who must work holidays have the option to take comp
- time or pay at time and a half. Some staff (high level supervisors) can only
- get comp time.
-
- As far as who works, usually we have enough volunteers. I suggested that we
- set up a rotating holiday schedule so that if you were off the last holiday,
- you work the next one, but staff didn't like that idea. We have never
- been in a staff bind over holidays. During breaks when the University is
- offically closed (like now) everyone is here - administrators, reference,
- bibliographers, circ, techies and all. Some schedule vacation at this time,
- but here, breaks are business as usual.
-
- We save our creativity for real library work, like conjuring up reasons to have
- more than one Christmas party. :*)
