- The PartyII ("The Final" [sure, sure]) is fast approaching (oh yeah, so
- is Xmas, heheh :). A big concern of mine, and for MANY others reading this,
- is whether or not we on the Internet will end up getting the stuff spread
- at the PartyII. Last year, someone was nice enough to upload the top
- three demos (massive chore!), and a disk made specifically for the top
- 3 mods and pics. After that, we may have had some other entries trickle
- in over the months...it's hard to tell. Actually, the 3-D Demo fairly
- recently made its way to amiga.physik... We're talking about almost a
- year to wait for this excellent demo! (it was released at the last party).
- I don't like this, personally. I find myself disturbed that all of the
- other GREAT (it goes without saying, doesn't it?) demos, mods, and intros
- (of which we saw ZERO) weren't made available..or at least not as
- immediately as is reasonable :).
-
- I have heard several guesses as to how much new demo-related software
- will be spread at the upcoming party. Some guess around 50 disks worth.
- Others in the know suggest over 100 disks! Now, as much of a pain
- as it sounds like it'll be, there must be SOME way to be sure that
- as close to 100% of that figure gets sent to an FTP site ASAP. No
- doubt someone will again be nice enough to (after a few weeks anyways)
- send the top three (or top 5 this time) of each category. Is this
- really enough? EVERYONE is saving their very BEST for this ultimate
- competition. The top 5 will be probbly the best in history, but I
- have little doubt that the 6th, 7th, 8th, etc place winners will be
- similarly excellent... and if nothing else, EVERY demo is collectable!
-
- On to intros. We didn't see any last time (as far as *I* can tell).
- This time there's no excuse. You could fit over 20 intros on a
- single disk. My guess is there will be enough intros entered to fill
- about 5 disks (but I really don't know :). That's a cinch to upload!
- I think if people are serious enough about collecting demos to collect
- intros, then they probably don't care if the intro really stinks :).
- Since the PartyII organizers claim to have planned the ultimate in
- organization this time, perhaps THEY will set up the spread-able
- intro disks? [HINT HINT! :) ]
-
- Mods... The top three will be worth having even if (like me) you really
- don't have diskroom to store mods :). Again, the next few potential
- place-winners will no-doubt also be excellent. I figure the ten or
- fifteen best mods entered will be worth sending to an ftp site.
-
- Pics... I personally don't care :). Still grafx tends to have a very
- short entertainment span, and I therefore rarely justify the space they
- take up. But for others' sake, the ten best pics (on 1 disk? Probably
- two...) would be nice :).
-
- Misc... MOST of the stuff that will be spread at the PartyII will NOT
- be entered in a contest! On top of that, according to the rules, MANY
- of the entries will be discarded during the initial judgement. With
- any luck, SOMEONE will be nice enough to send these to an ftp site along
- with all the mandatory stuff :).
-
- Yes, this does sound like a lot of work. It IS! :) I think FTP is
- finally important enough to be treated like a major BBS (because for
- most relevant purposes, it is :), and if people are nice enough to send
- everything to a BBS, why not Internet?
-
- Comments? Additions? Agreement? ;) I want this to work, and so do you.
