  13. There is nothing difficult about sending information back from a printer
  14. to a DEDICATED program. The program says to the printer 'Tell me' and
  15. then reads a serial bit-stream back from one of the handshake lines,
  16. perhaps using another as a clock and some form of interlock.

  18. Lap-link etc need special cables to connect the OUTPUT pins of one
  19. computer to the INPUT pins of the other, whereas the printer already
  20. has output drivers on the handshake output lines.
