- In article <3206@ucl-cs.uucp>,
- G.Joly@cs.ucl.ac.uk (Gordon Joly) doodled:
-
- >Do bitmapped/raster images on students and staff come under the Act?
- >Can they be stored on disk and veiwed by all?
-
- They do indeed come under the act, our Computer Science department here
- had to withdraw their _public_ 'showme' system as it contravened the DP
- Acts rules that you shouldn't store data that revealed peoples ethnic
- background.
-
- The keywork is that if it is open to all then it is illegal. However if
- it is controlled (only specific registered users can access it) then it
- is legal.
-
- The implication here is that the xfaces archive is also illegal in the UK.
