- Well, your mileage may vary, as they say. All of the successful
- long term relationships that I've had with men have been with
- men whose fathers were either absent (dead, divorced) or their
- influence was negligible. It's occurred to me that part of what
- is right with these men is that they don't have bad patterns of
- male-female behaviour especially related to the role of men and women
- in the family to overcome.
-
- My husband, whose father died when he was very young, is quite
- comfortable with the idea of women being in positions of authority.
- He doesn't have a problem with having female bosses and we don't
- have those kind of "men do this, women do this" conflicts that I
- see in a lot of people. Since you didn't ask, he is also a very
- good father.
-
- Maybe you should actually say what you mean instead of making a
- broad category of single parent families. Do you mean parents who
- were never married? Do you mean poor people? Do you mean drug abusers,
- or irresponsible parents? People without spouses don't have a monopoly
- on those attributes. The little monsters next door to me have 2
- married parents and it hasn't improved their mouths any or their respect
- for other people's property.
