- 1) Religious behavior does make a specially-protected group. Why
- should this be different?
-
- 2) Even the Catholic Church recognizes that homosexuality is an
- innate characteristic, and discrimination exists against people
- who may be celibate but are attracted to members of the same sex.
- No behavior there, other than speech.
-
- Behavior is not the issue. Legislated bigotry is the
- issue. Why is it OK to single out a group of people
- for discrimination based on an innate characteristic
- which if acted on results in consensual private activities
- between adults?
-
- Saying that the government should provide a separation of
- church and state by enacting non-discrimination laws based
- on choice of religion and allowing religious groups to
- be free from taxes while at the same time saying that
- the government should single out gay people for loss of
- privileges and rights enjoyed by heterosexuals based solely
- on religious grounds (can you provide any others?) is
- hypocrisy - a sin mentioned more often and more clearly
- in the Bible than homosexuality, which is in fact not
- mentioned explicitly at all.
