- Melinda, I lived in Mississippi for 15+ years. I was raised there.
- I know first hand (FIRST HAND) that blacks are *still* discriminated
- against. Sure, the protests and boycotts of the 60's helped at the
- time, but tell that to black people that *still* endure hate crimes.
- Your boycott may (MAY) be effective in overturning the amendment (but
- I doubt it). However, I can assure you that just because the amendment is
- gone, people won't immediately start accepting gays/lesbians openly.
- No, change simply does NOT happen that fast, and you are crazy to
- think that it will.
- Yes, there DOES have to be a first step, but I think you should
- brace yourself for the future...it will be a long one. Taking YOUR
- example of the Civil Rights Movement, it has been almost 30 years...
- blacks in this country are *still* fighting for their civil rights.

- No, that would imply that I am gay, and I am definitely straight! I
- would consider writing, "Amendment 2 is Discrimination" on it or
- something.
-
- A previous post mentioned that it seems like every person in favor of
- the boycott is outside the state of Colorado. Wouldn't it be interesting
- if these people actually boycotted their OWN states until THEIR states
- obtained Amendments to THEIR state constitutions that would give
- protected status to gays/lesbians. I bet that such an amendment would
- fail in many of the states. I don't agree with CO Amendment 2, but I
- would be suprised if it passed in ANY southern state (except possibly
- Florida) and it certainly wouldn't pass in Utah. Does anybody have any
- thoughts on this?
-
- What would we do if such an amendment to the US Constitution failed? Would
- we all boycott the USA and all move to say, Japan? I bet it wouldn't pass
- in Japan either!
-
- Jeff (just some thoughts)
