  20. anything, it is I who shoulders the blame for inflaming the waiter.  I
  21. attempted to joke with him and he, thinking that the institution that 
  22. employs him is beyond such repartee, became snotty and sneering.  No
  23. worse than the argula in my salad that night: a tad bitter on the tongue,
  24. but quickly fades away.
