  12. I am just furious after recieving my alumni newletter in the mail last
  13. night and I would like to know if this happens to others.

  15. My husband and I graduated from the same university and when we got married
  16. (2 years ago), we obviously started receiving 2 copies of all the alumni
  17. mail.  We decided to tell them we got married so we would only receive  1
  18. copy.  After doing this I started receiving everything addressed to Mrs.
  19. Parke (his last name).  I had never told them to change my name - they just
  20. automatically did that.  The first time this happened I phoned the alumni
  21. office and they changed it.  However, my Faculty alumni newsletter did not.
  22.  After asking them 2 times now, they still have not changed it (although
  23. now it has been changed to Ms. Parke).  It infuriates me to think in the
  24. 1990's a university would still assume that a woman is automatically
  25. changing her name when she gets married!  The Canadian government doesn't
  26. even do that any more (and hasn't for a while).  Aren't universities
  27. supposed to be progressive institutions?

  29. It's bad enought socially when people assume you've changed your name, but
  30. when institutions do I feel frustrated and saddened...
  31.  
  32. Anybody else had this kind of experience?
