- What was the speed of the Thresher when she sunk? I know she was down
- deep, but was she doing speed trials at the time or just diving. The
- reason I ask is, might the Thresher been a victim of the high speed turning
- problem that plagues many US subs. This is indicated by an article in the
- USNI Proceddings which tells of a sub being forced to greater depths when
- turns are made at higher speeds.

- I very much agree with the above statement regarding Rickover. He had
- great foresight and basically stuck to a constistant set of standards. He
- also helped to focus the submarine service a great deal.

- The rest of Don's post on him is really good and an accurate analysis of
- his demise towards the end of his career. He was excellent at what he did
- but in the end he did begin to lose touch with reality.
