  15. According to a story on the AP wire today, derived from a report in
  16. today's Jane's Defense Weekly, Iran is building a base at Chah Bahar
  17. for the former Soviet Kilo-class subs it's buying from Russia.

  19. This site is on the Gulf of Oman, between the Persian Gulf and the
  20. Arabian Sea, not at Bandar Abbas in the Gulf as previously believed.
  21. Jane's believes that this implies the subs will be operated mainly
  22. in the Arabian Sea.  How does the mean depth of the Arabian Sea
  23. compare to that of the Persian Gulf?

  25. The report says that a platform on the Kilo that has been delivered,
  26. not present on standard Kilos, can be used for launching "SA-14 or
  27. SA-16" IR-guided surface-to-air missile.

  29. My Aviation Week spec sheet, from 3/16/92, describes the SA-14
  30. "Gremlin" as a solid-fuel, 1-stage, shoulder-launched, IR-guided
  31. replacement for the SA-7 "Grail", with up to 3 mile range.  The sheet
  32. has no information at all on the SA-16.  Does anyone else have details
  33. on this?
