- The reason it was called "Katyusha" was that "Katyusha" was a very popular
- song at that time (and later in China during the Sino-Soviet honey moon in the
- 50's) and Red Army soldiers loved it so much that they named it so. The reason
- they loved it so much is that it had a devastating effect on German morale.
- True, it has never been accurate (even today). But it can fire ALOT rockets
- into a not too large area in a short burst whose shock effect is tremendous.
- With modern fire control systems and terminal guided munition, it can be a real
- headache to anyone wandering through its path. That is probably why US
- developed MLRS which had a very high profile during the Gulf war.
