- Friday, 6 November, 1942
-
- Heavy rains in Egypt slow the advance of the 8th Army, giving the Axis a
- badly-needed pause. The Allies are further limited by a shortage of fuel,
- but still manage to catch and destroy the remnants of the 21st Panzer
- Division, itself immobilized for lack of fuel. Berlin radio warns of the
- possibility that Field Marshal Rommel may have been captured.
-
- General MacArthur arrives at Port Moresby to personally direct operations
- on New Guinea.
-
- Stalin again criticizes the western Allies for failing to open a second
- front, stating that the USSR is fighting 240 Axis divisions compared to
- only 15 being engaged in Africa.
