- This weekend I had the pleasure of watching Roy Underhill (the woodwrights
- shop) doing a little bit of turning on Walnut. The guy is a darned fine
- turner! He handled the skew like he knew what he was doing. He used
- the bevel to burnish the wood. He used the gouges very well too.
-
- (excuse me for a second... [sounds of clothing being put on] Ahh, now that
- I have asbestos undies on, let me proceed and defame a religious character)
-
- This was in distinct contrast to watching Norm Abhrams hacking at a lathe
- on The New Yankee Powertool Advertising Show a few months ago. Norm
- used scraping cuts, and basically abused the wood into shape. He really
- didn't know what he was doing.
-
- For those of you who want to learn how to turn, buy the Richard Raffin tape
- from FWW, or watch Underhill. But for heavens sake, don't learn from Norm.
