- Greetings!
-
- Awhile back, when I was looking for information on rear
- projectors, Frank Longo sent me mail to let me know that Sony was
- coming out with some new ultra-slim rear-projectors towards the end
- of this month.
-
- Well, I saw the 53" version today, and I'm sold! It has excellent
- picture quality, great color (although probably not 6500K), and all
- the features of the XBR^2. Plus, it's less than 25" deep (for a 53"
- screen!!!). Overall, I was very, very impressed. For my personal
- preference, I liked the picture much better than that of the 60"
- Mitsubishi.
-
- I especially liked the way the Sony has multiple stored
- configurations ("Normal", "Movie", "Music", "News", "Sports") which
- alter both the parameters to the picture and to the SRS audio
- section. "Movie" mode gives a more film-like picture (dimmer,
- pixels and scanning lines less obvious, etc), and makes a nice wide
- soundstage. "News" mode puts most of the audio in the center, and
- puts brightness on normal. Etc.
-
- Add to this the fact that it's cosmetically very atractive, and I
- think Sony's got a winner. Price? Dealer wanted $3700.
-
- Check it out!

- PS: Thanks for the tip, Frank! I still can't email you. MIT's
- machines don't seem to know about your host 'bank.citib.com'. Most
- of the questions I wanted to ask you were answered by looking at the
- set anyway.
