- I'm trying to decide whether to take a three-day holiday season
- trip to Indianhead or Boyne. I live in the western 'burbs of
- Chicago, and both hills are equidistant driving-wise (Indianhead
- is just under 400 miles a little west and mostly north thru
- Wisconsin, to the very western end of Upper Michigan. Boyne is
- just under 400 miles around the bottom of Lake Michigan then
- straight up Lower Michigan.
-
- I'm extremely familiar with Indianhead, having skiied there since
- my childhood days in Wisconsin. Of course, with Lake Michigan in
- the way, Wisconsinites like me rarely traveled in Lower Michigan
- (unless we were taking a trip on one of the then-plentiful Lake
- Michigain car/train ferry boats). So I've never been to Boyne.
- People I met from Detroit talked highly enthusiastically about
- Boyne, however, and just this past year, it's been getting a
- lot of positive press. So I'm tempted to get out of my rut and
- try Boyne.
-
- I'd appreciate comments from people who've skiied both. I'm an
- intermediate (I'll do occasional black diamonds, but no mogul
- fields please!) My son is a ski nut (he'll take the mogul
- fields), and my daughter is an accomplished beginner (real
- confident on skis, but a ways from paralleling).
-
- I'll also take lodging suggestions for the Boyne area.
-
- Thanks,
- Carl Blesch
