- Objective: I want to increase my width stance. I'm 6'1", 180 lbs and do
- about 70% freeriding/freestyling, and 30% pipe.
-
- Problem: I have a 92 Burton Air 6.1, with predrilled inserts at a stance
- width of 44 cm (17.32 inches).
-
- Questions (LOTS!!!)
-
- - I'm thinking a stance width of around 20" would be more suitable for my
- height/weight and the type of riding I do. Can anyone help me with suggesting
- a stance width? Would an increase from 17.3" to 19-22" make that much
- a difference? I feel a wider width might help me with my grabs, airs (landing)
- pipe moves. Of course, would my carving be affected much?
-
- - A local surf shop will work with me on doing the drilling/inserting.
- Except right now I'm kinda clueless how it would be done. It seems we would
- drill straight through the deck, core, and base. Then emplant a metal insert
- into the hole. How is the insert held in (epoxy?) What is done on the base
- side (is it covered with epoxy, then ptex?)
-
- - I assume we would make three new holes per binding. To get a centered
- stance both bindings would be redrilled. Would there be any merit in just
- moving one binding up/back, and which one?
-
- - The BIGGIES. Has anyone done this, or know anyone who has? Can any damage
- result from this process (immediately or over time?) And finally, do you
- guys think it would be worth it???
-
- Thanx!
- Derek
