- There is an interesting (IMO) historical precedent. About 1900, the
- Hudson & Manhattan Tunnel company started the first of the tunnels
- under the Hudson River, from Jersey, to offer commuter service to NYC.
- Originally, they were nervous that the might Pennsylvania RR might
- object. In fact, the PRR was pleased. They would MUCH rather do the
- long haul/prestige/maybe_even_profitable business & leave the local
- stuff to someone else.
